Registration for the Bank of America Chicago Marathon closed on Monday (February 6) afternoon after being open for only six days. A total of 45,000 participants signed up for what will be the 35th anniversary of the race, which takes places on Sunday, October 7.

This weekend's Bushy parkrun turned out to be a star-studded affair with sporting icons Mark Spitz and Edwin Moses both competing. The Olympic gold medallist and 400m hurdler were joined by Nell McAndrew, who, on her Bushy debut, finished with an impressive time of 19:16.

The 2012 Kent Grand Prix kicked off last weekend with the Canterbury 10 mile event with nearly 900 finishers at the opener of the 10 race series. Conditions were wet with deep puddles pockmarking the course, but otherwise it was ideal for distance running; it was cool, calm and on a fairly flat course.

Perhaps with this in mind, one runner is entreating fellow enthusiasts to hit the road and simply see have far you can go. Simon Walkden's The Longest Day Run takes place between midday June 23 and 24, 2012, and challenges each runner to see how many miles they can cover in 24 hours.
